if they didn't run any oil, the crank bearing did not get any lubrication either...
you might be in the same boat as me on my $425 project...split the case and replace bearing+ seals.

any way you could rephrase that to make it sound less haunting?
if it turns out the cases need to be broken open there is no way ill break even on this and then i'll have no ohter choice but to ride it :wah:

is there any way to check this without splitting the cases?

You can check the bearings for play on the flywheel and main gear side, and check the rod for up/down play which I believe you already did. As for the seals, no way to test until you get it buttoned back up and can do a leakdown test.

If you truely belive that the bike was run on straight gas then crank bearings and seals are in order also. But keep in mind that some oils don't change the color of the gas. I use Amsoil and there is no way to tell if there is oil in the gas or not by color. I add marine Stablil to every batch and that gives a slight blueish tint but not much.

i really dont know what to think Rbates
the guy i bought it from said his buddy owed him money
when he couldnt pay up he gave him the bike and he never rode it
according to his story the buddy had rebuild the engine which i believe to be true because of the piston and the gasket maker
but i find it hard to believe someone who knows how to rebuild an engine wouldnt know that same engine requires oil

if there is oil that doesnt tint the fuel that might have been what he used
and who's to say the engine didnt seize up during the break in period and that when he decided to trade it to his buddy (who sold it to me) and HEs the one who put straight gas in there?

to qoute my boss "i know notting"

would i be right to assume these are boysens ?
