How's my cylinder?

Intake side: Dullish looking, no scratch

Exhaust side: Vertical scratch marks

There's a little P on the top of the piston. Does that mean anything?

A little p? sure it's not a B?

Hard to tell from those pics. First off, it looks sleeved. Some spots are looking a little questionable. At a minimum, I'd pull it, clean it, make sure it checks out, and put a top end kit in it. It might need further attention. If it is indeed sleeved, at worst it's a bore and oversize piston job.

P.S.

Looking closer at the pics, i'm not sure on the sleeve. At the top of the cylinder it appears sleeved. Around the ports, it does not. If someone sleeved it, they did a better job than I've ever seen. If that's plating, it is definitely either thin around the exhaust port, or covered with aluminum deposits from the piston. Someone else chime in. Do you see a sleeve in this picture?? I think better pics are needed...

It's not sleeved. I can see it's plated, after I removed the gasket.

I took the piston out. The underside says SK. Is that good piston? Bike is a 220R by the way.

What do I do now? Just throw a Wisco in there?

The plating looks thin to me, with it being different colors in the worn area. I'd start saving my pennies.

First step is to get the cylinder off and cleaned up. Then it can be checked out more thoroughly.

Scrub the inside with a scotchbrite pad and some wd-40 or similar, and snap another pic for us? How does the piston look? Any scuffing on the exhaust side?

Okay. I do that tonight. I need to figure out how to take better photographs. I need to break out the user manual and figure it out.

After scotch bright and WD40...

Intake side. There's some smutch-like mark that looks like piting.
Image

Exhaust side has vertical scratch marks. I can barely feel it with my finger nails. There's also a dull patch right
above the exhaust port.

Seems like a lot of people are real happy with Langcourts.

Here is an example, scroll down a little:

I used powerseal and have no complaints.
Strip, Plate, Hone $179
Weld/Machine $50
how much does lancourt charge for a replate and weld repair (if needed, which i don't think it does)?

Does the studs need to be removed before sending to Langcourt? If so, how do I remove them?

I just bought a standard size Wisco 220 piston. After I get the cylinder back from Langcourt, can I still use this Wisco piston?

What instruction do I need to give Langcourt?

Langcourts' price list:
Single cylinder replate & diamond hone (aluminum or cast iron) $174.95
Single cylinder bore, plate & diamond hone (aluminum or cast iron) $209.95
Single cylinder weld bore damage (aluminum only), replate & diamond hone $229.95
Single cylinder repair detonation, replate & diamond hone (aluminum only) $249.95
Single cylinder rebuild damaged skirt, replate & diamond hone (aluminum only) $249.95

The easiest way to remove the studs is to put two nuts on them, run the nuts together, and loosen the stud with the lower nut. They should come right out.
You need to remove all the parts - those head alignment dowels, the little hex plug near the exhaust port etc...

Talk to the plater of your choice. They will probably want you to send your piston in with the cylinder.

Do you mean my new Wisco piston or the old piston?

I just went through this on my 200.
And yes I would wait until its been re-plated and let whoever does it suggest the piston and ring size. I was actually able to order my piston from the same person who plated mine. and BTW you will need to get everything off that cylinder when you send it off. alignment dows, nuts, bolts, just anything not aluminum.

Judging by your pics it is time to do it. you could get buy as is, but it will not be long before you are blowing it. Either way, depending on your budget. Good luck.

I believe "Single cylinder bore, plate & diamond hone (aluminum or cast iron) $209.95"
Because you want to remove any imperfections and then re-plate. Plus that seems about right on price. you can anticipate another $50 in shipping.
