Front Axle Clamp Nuts - Broken Studs

G'day Everyone! Hoping all is well where you are!!!!

I replaced the front brake disc tonight.

After putting the front axle back in, I tore a stud clean in half While torqueing up the 4 x axle clamp bolts.
(actually 2 studs! - I think my torque wrench may be knackered! They say you should never do maintenance jobs after working a night shift!)

I wondered if anyone had replaced any of these studs?

Is it were just a case of locking two nuts on the remaining piece of stud & "giving it some herbs" to wrench the old stud out of the lower fork unit?

sounds to me like you got the idea
assuming there is enough thread left to put 2 nuts on

i guess i would start by looking up a parts diagram and seeing if the studs are listed as seperate pieces

then it would just be a matter of removing the broken ones and installing new ones

one a side note, this reminds me of a funny story
i was helping my buddy do a tune up on his car
it was getting late and all that was left to do was replace the spark plugs and button her back up
so i told him, put the plugs 1/4 turn past finger tight and your all set
but he wanted to do things by the book and torque them to spec so i left my torque wrench with him and went home
about 20 minutes later he called me and said he had broken off a spark plug
i couldnt imagine this so i went back and back

sure enough, he had managed to snap the spak plug in half
the threaded part was still in the head, the other half still in the socket

turned out he had looked up the torque specs in the manual and where it said so many inch pounds he had set the torque wrench for foot pounds

Some where on here some one posted the part number for the studs. Try looking in the H series posts.

The studs break often. Go with some ARP studs and never break one again.

Thanks for the confidence inspiring advice! Took the old ones out with a pair of vice grips & replaced with brand spankers' for a total cost of AUD15. I reckon the exercise took less time than changing the air filter!
Thanks again!!! :prayer:

There is a time and place for a torque wrench, if it is smaller than .125 thousandths I won"t go near it with a torquer.
