KIPS Lubrication

Post by SS109 »

I'm getting ready to assemble the KIPS on my bike and was curious what everyone has used to lube them up with? I know the manual states "molybdenum disulfide grease" but just cheap auto parts store black grease meets that requirement. Is there something better now or just stick with what the manual says?

I used 2 stoke oil, and put some of that disulfide cheapo grease on the gear, claw...
I think that black grease from the auto store wouldn't last very long with the engine temp...

The cheapo grease I'm talking about has molybdenum disulfide in it. It has a melting point of 350f degrees and a continuous use up to 290f. Here is the PDS on it: http://www.warrenoil.com/MSDS-Spec/PDS/ ... Grease.pdf

KIPS Lubrication

I just drown the parts in 2 stroke oil and grease the gear as well. With as gooie and oily they are when you take the KIPS apart they get plenty of lube once the bike is running so I never gave it much thought to grease the pieces.

The whole thing is going to be covered in black spooge in a few minutes anyway - but I did spray the parts down with PAM non-stick cooking spray before I re-assembled mine...
