Is it the stock cylinder? If so, the manual says not to hone it.

Just in case you did not know already, the stock cylinder has Kawasaki's Electrofusion coating. It does not have a lined/sleeved cylinder, like one would have in some older model bikes.

If the cylinder has some gouges or the plating is worn off in some areas, try Langcourt or Millenium for cylinder replating. They have a good slide show of pictures on the Langcourt site as to what all is involved. Search around for more info.

If you think the cylinder just has some oil glaze built up, then most folks reecommend some lube and a green Scotch-Brite pad to rub on the cylinder walls. Honing (besides being instructed not to do so in the owner/service manual) can catch a port and flake off the plating.

Also, since the coating is so hard, a normal hone will not cut new cross-hatch marks into it, unless it is a diamond hone, which is what Langcourt, Millenium and replaters have.

Hopefully, some of this was not a repeat for you.

I'm not positive, but I thought only the later air cooleds (KIPS) were nickel bore? You can tell easily by evidence of a sleeve at top of cyl, or with a magnet
