From all of you that have replaced your pipes as I have what did you do with your stocker? Is there any demand for stock pipe before I toss it? Couldn't imagine anyone wanting one but it only has a small dent in the regular place and I hate to throw it away.

Yeah where you located? I wouldn't mind having one. I heard stock pipes are stronger than FMF.
Probably better for dualsport when durability is paramount.

IMHO, you can never have too many spare parts for your bike.

Suppose you had a weekend of riding planed, you go out Saturday and mash your brand new shiny aftermarket pipe down flat. Now the weekend is done. No more riding for you at least till Wednesday (or longer) when the new pipe you have to wait till Monday to order and spend another $200 on comes in. Or, you can say O SH!T now I have to run home and put the old stock pipe back on and be on with the ride. Just saying.

if im not mistaking the stock unit is a dual wall where as every aftermarket version is single wall
which is where the difference in strenght (and weight) lies


as for the stocker
i sold mine on ebay for 25 bucks to someone locally who was restoring a 220 that had a damaged aftermarket pipe on it

I hung one on the wall in the garage. It makes a nice place for spiders to hang out.

If i ever want to do another hybrid I may need it. Cut the snout off it and weld to another pipe so it fits the KDX cylinder.

The other reasons for keeping it are all valid, IMO

Where were you when I was looking to buy one? ;) I like the stealthyness of the stocker, and it is the king of grunt. It signs off pretty early compared to any aftermarket pipe, which is fine for the application, IMHO. We did some testing recently...drag racing...LOL. I was getting spanked by my friends 200 w/ a rev on it. Obviously that pipe has some overrev, and he was wringing it out....just as one should. I was wringing mine out as well. It was hard to feel, as it feels faster when you wring it out, right? However we were a dead match when I short shifted mine A LOT. No tach of course, but like 2/3 of the band, and just let the motor pull in the midrange. Got on his w/ the rev, and it FELT a TON faster....Testing proved otherwise. Mine will also idle up hills where his will not. I would imagine the biggest gains in the rev in particular are with complementary porting/ignition mods.

A stock pipe has some value but not much. The pipe is the first thing most people replace on a bike so they are not that desirable. Sorry. If I had the option to buy a used stock pipe for $100 or a brand new power adding aftermarket pipe for $200 I have to say I would have to go with the new one.

if someone wants to pay shipping its theirs...I'll warn you its a heavy sucker and odd shape so the box won't be too small. (And I want to send you a pic to show you the minor dent first) As far as $25 on ebay...its not worth the boxing, ebay fees, travel to shipper. If I don't hear from someone about it by this weekend it'll go in the trash (or maybe recycle bin?)

If I crunch my FMF enough that it ruins the ride I'll just have to ride one of my other bikes. ;-)

I might be interested if the price is right, got a potential project for it.

Stock pipes can be "gutted" to gain performance. The inner layer can be cut out, leaving only the outer layer. When done, the stock appearing pipe will have similar power to an aftermarket pipe. Cutting and welding is required. I'm pretty sure I saw a thread on this somewhere...
