Help with getting a KDX 200
Hi,
I am getting back into riding after 10 years as my son is starting to ride. I used to ride a yamaha IT200 so the KDX 200 should be a good fit. I have a few good options and would appreciate some input.
2006 kdx 200-stock-great shape-$1700.00
2003 kdx 200- New tires new forks seals, Pro Tapers,FMF,Twin Air, Bosen Reeds, Low hours. great shape-$1900 OBO.
2001 kdx 200- $450 Suspensoin By Design fork upgrade Race Tech springs New $400 FMF Pipe n Sparky new Boysen reeds n Twin Air filter-great shape-$1800.00
1995 kdx 200-stock-Comes with mounted Paddle Tire and mounting arm-good shape-$1000.00
Will be trail riding mostly with maybe a trip or two to the sand dunes each year. Any help would be appreciated. I am looking to buy one this week.

Help with getting a bike
One of the first two, because...
The $450 suspension service was not done for you, your weight, your terrain, your riding style, your skill level, etc.
The 1995 model is now 18 years old. Since you have the means apparently to get one 6 or 11 years newer, do so. Condition is most important, but I am a fan of things not being older when it does not have to be. Meaning... condition being equal, go for the newer one if the price is not too far off. No matter what part is on there, it is 6 or 11 years older than the other two.
If you think you want the pipe and other stuff, you may lean that way. All bikes come with tires, reeds, a pipe and an air filter. Are you willing to pay that much more for an older model with those parts, is a question you may want to ask yourself.

i agree with jason, the top two seems the way, but i'd tend to lean towards the '03... since i've only been riding for a few months now, and i found the stock set-up just a little tame, so i'd imagine you'd be happier with a bit of extra fun under your bum!
it's not that im stipud, i just can't spell!

1700 for a stock 06 is a great buy, if the bike is in good condition. I would take the stock machine over one that someone else has "upgraded". There's no telling what they may have done right, or wrong.
Just my 2 cents. As you get back into the swing of things, you can do your upgrades one at a time. You'll end up being more comfortable with the bike.

Thank you all for the input. I think I will look at the 03 since it is so close to me first, and then go up and check out the 06(4 hour drive). I kind of like the idea of getting a stock bike and upgrading to fit my needs.........

Some upgrades are good IMHO. If you can find a bike that already has the skid plate, pipe, bars, and guards then you will be money ahead. To add the above mentioned parts you will be out $500-$800 and the parts don't add that much if any value to the bike for resale. Good for the buyer, bad for the seller.

Re: Help with getting a KDX 200
rbates- that is my dilema. The 03 bike has most if not all the upgrades I would probably need save maybe some suspension mods(5' 9" 210lbs). The bike is in good shape but has a lot more hours than the 06. The 06 was only ridden two seasons and has been garaged since(started regularly I am told). I don't think I will go wrong with either bike.........just gotta make a decision.

Re: Help with getting a KDX 200
Thanks to everyone for the input. I am going to get the 06 stock bike. I can put a few upgrades on it myself and not have it be too much more expensive than the other bikes.....plus it is newer!!
