Thought I'd take this topic away from the rebuild thread.

Anywho! There is another option for your KIPS to make them a bit cheaper instead of making the whole thing out of bronze.

If you get bronze bushes to start (something nice and solid).

Then grind / machine the top of the broken valve flush to the top of the larger section where the cutaway is.

Get an engineer to make a set of stubs for all of you, with the gears on them. Drill and press fit them into the aluminium part of the valve.


Just an idea to keep mass production costs down... though it does involve a little homework...

At one time we had discussed possibly having the original gears machined off the sub-valves and having a bronze one made and pressing it on to the aluminum shaft.

Valve timing could get a bit tricky.
