rear wheel

hello all,

I need to change my rear tyre, Im still new to dirtbikes and have not done this before, I read in the manual it says to take the chain off before removing the rear wheel ut Ive seen on youtube etc other bikes just undoing the wheel moving it forward and taking it out without removing the chain.

Firstly is it possible to take the rear wheel out on the kdx without taking the chain apart

secondly If I do have to take the the chain off is there an idiots guide on how to do it. I.e. how do I remove take the split link off? is it a job of using pliers, screwdriver to prise it off?

bike is a 1998 kdx H model

I did try the search but couldnt find anything similar

Do as you saw on you tube... There is no need to split the chain.

bog is right
loosen up the rear axle nut far enough to reset the chain tensioners back to zero (the little cresent shaped parts behind the axle)
this will allow you to move the wheel forward
now put all the slack on the chain on the top of the rear sprocket and pull it to the left so it misses the sprocket when you go to turn the wheel
(if there isnt a ton of play just put a screwdriver in between the sprocket and the chain)
now just slowly turn the wheel backwards and the chain will drop right off the sprocket
remove the caliper, pull the axle out and your set to pull the wheel out
