Piston Condition

Post by gopack4749 »

I took off the pipe of my '87 KDX 200 just to 'see what I could see' of the piston. From the look that I got the piston has no gouges, just a light scoring-feels smooth to the touch. The rings look worn, but the bike runs pretty well and does not smoke. The piston has no brown or black stains anywhere on it so no blow by I guess. Also it is not shiny so I guess there is not a friction/seizure issue. The bore looks normal, has some pitting at the top near the head, but feels smooth.

I am not winding this bike out or running it wide open. I am kind of putting around trails and the yard with it. I am thinking about riding it a little this summer and then doing a top end in the winter. Does this sound okay? I am running YAMALUBE 2R at 32:1. I took a crappy cell phone pic of the piston but you can't tell much from it. Sorry. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

Keep riding.

I've done more damage "fixing" stuff than I care to admit.

Wouldn't hurt to do a compression test.
