Is my shock linkage toast?

Post by wakdady »

The bearing was completely thrashed. looks like it was that way for a while too!

so a new linkage is about $140, even a used one on ebay is $100

what do you guys think? throw a new bearing in there and run it anyway? or spring for a new linkage? the hole is definitely elongated.

I would think you can build up material as needed with welding, then size the hole again to fit the bearing. At least it is aluminum so the machine work isn't hard on the tools.

I have yet to take off my linkage so it may be in the same shape

I would not bother putting bearings in that linkage, they won't last very long.

Maybe take the new bearings and linkage to a friendly local machine shop and see what they think. Maybe they can bore it and bush it.

unless you like replacing bearing every ride i'd say this is toasted. I'd get a new(er) one instead of wasting my time and money with a shop at this point.

You could fill it with Alumirod, Alumiweld, etc., redrill it to the right size, and install a new bearing and be good to go. Or, like Karl mentioned, a machine shop could probably bore and bush it.

Yeah, but you could do the Alumirod (or whatever brand you find) from Harbor Freight for under $20.

What year model is it? Surely you can find a used one for less, with a little waiting.

Nevermind. I see in another post that it is a 1999.
