Petcock Rebuild Kit?

Post by Ravensdale-Rider »

Hey guys,

I believe my petcock is a bit worn and is not fully shutting off the gas. When I set the switch to off gasoline is still coming through it. I noticed this when I let my bike sit in the garage and a huge puddle of gas would be underneath my bike. I also took the lines off of it and even when switched off gas is coming through.

A brand new petcock is $45 but I have seen petcock "rebuild kits". These rebuild kits are a lot cheaper but do they actually work or will I have to buy a brand new petcock? I've included a link here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fuel-Petcock-re ... 500wt_1147

Yeah they work as long as the petcock itself isn't cracked. Usualy the reason for a leaky petcock is that the small disk cracks (bottom right in ebay picture).

Petcock Rebuild Kit?

I replaced all the seals last month and it still wants to leak a small amount, but much less than before. I think the spring pressure plate holding the lever in place has become weak... otherwise I'm not really sure what could be the problem.

That rebuild kit in the ebay link will cost you ~$10 more than it cost me from ronayers....
