Knew it was bound to happen
My 2003 kdx blew up on me on the trail this weekend. Im just curious of a ballpark number that it would cost for a mechanic to rebuild it. Thanks

Entirely too much. Have you some tools? Start tearing it down and taking some pictures and we can help you with the rebuild. Doing most or even SOME of the work yourself will save you a boatload.

amen to that!
before you tear it down do you have the manual?
there is one critical (but simple) step when you remove the kips the shaft MUST be supported or you'll damage/brake the governor.
Do a search and you'll see what I'm talking about.
Everything else is rather simple if u have some common sense.
Ask question if u not sure.
To answer your 1st question though I'd guess 400-500 - parts...and a job not necessarily done properly...

I would recommend the service manual. I know nothing about bikes or motors, but after getting the service manual, i am MUCH more confident when working on my bike. Helps alot to be able to look at pictures, and read something as many times as it takes to understand.
