I don't know if i got a great deal or not.
The guy said the top was rebuilt less than 50 miles ago. it's a '99 and i paid $1,300 for it. i started it cold and it fired up on the first kick. very nice.

BUT, once i got home and took it around the block i noticed this rattle noise. please help me diagnose this noise? i'm really hoping i don't have to rebuild this new to me bike right away.

Sounds like every other kdx I've ever heard :)

Sounds like a good running KDX to me, if it didn't sound like that I'd be worried!
All kidding aside, that's your KIPS rattling, nothing to be concerned about.

What you are hearing is the famous KIPS rattle in action. Nothing to get excited about. It is normal.

Ah, you guys are awesome! I'll sleep well tonight. That noise really freaked me out, never owning a smoker.

Inspect the piston if this is in question....Or do a comp test.
