E model rear wheel on an H model
Has anyone tried using an E model rear wheel on a H model? What are the differences, if any?
Thanks

I've been wondering the same thing???jaredXwoodsman wrote:So I can use an older series wheel on my 2003? I'm trying to buy an extra rear but all I can find are the older series wheels on eBay.
The part number for the E Series hub ( 41034-1205) is different than the part number for the H Series hub (41034-1216). I'm not sure what the difference is between the hubs. I'll compare the parts diagrams and numbers between the H series and the E series to try and figure it out.
Otherwise, can anyone else shed some light on this issue?

I've done some research... supposedly (hah) the following wheels will work:
E model KDX's
KDX250 91-94
KLX250 94-96 and up?
KLX300 97-04
KLX650R (the offroad version)
KX125 95
I think the later KX125 's will work too, I just ordered a KX125 97-2002 series wheel and I'll let you know for sure. Of course the KX's are 19" but you can get trials tires in 19 inch now and the guys that use them say they have no problems at all off-roading with the narrower profile.
The advantage of the KX series is cost, the wheel I ordered (ebay) was 85 bucks + shipping - the KDX wheels are around 150 and up (if you can find them). The trials 19 inch tires run about $15 more than the 18" versions.

I have put a 2000 KX 250 wheel on my 2000 KDX and it fits just fine, even uses the same sprockets and rotor.
I Have a spare KDX wheel (18") that I put a trials tire on and it works out nice having a spare wheel for different riding conditions.
One thing to look for is if the 125 wheel is a 2.15" or a 1.85" wide rim. That may make a difference.
Also, The trials tire I just put on is a lot taller than the knobby I have and the clearance between the tire and the swing arm / mud flap is greatly reduced. Another thing to look for.
And the trials tires need to be run softer so they have the flex that gives them the traction they are known for. A 19" wheel may not have the clearance around the swing arm and enough side wall for the flex with out pinching.
When you do get a trials tire you may want to look at getting lower gearing to compensate for the taller tire. I went from 12/47 to 12/48 and probably should have gone more.

I'll be interested to see what works for you. mattnzl had a direct fit to his H series from an E.
I could only find a difference in a couple of part numbers from E to H series; rim, axle, and hub.
The rest of the part numbers interchanged, even the bearings. If the bearings interchange then it stands to reason the axle and hub should "probably" work also? The H Series has a 2.15 x 18 rim, I couldn't find the spec on the E series rim, I'd have to guess it's the same also.
I want a another wheel so I can keep a set of mud tires on 1 wheel and another hard surface tire on the other. Call me lazy, but I don't like changing tires. Who does?

Well, I got the 97-2002 KX125 wheel and it fits perfectly. The brake rotor is the same diameter and the hub width is the same. So if you don't have an issue with 19" rims, that might be a cheaper alternative to the overpriced ebay kdx wheels. I used to race cross-country on KX's with 19" wheels and never had a flat (used hd tubes) - and never noticed any difference otherwise.

I ordered parts from Fredette Racing today and asked Jeff about this issue. He agreed that the E Series wheel (as well as others) wil fit the H Series KDX. He did say that you would have to use an E Series brake rotor on the E Series hub. For some reason an H Series rotor won't work on the E wheel..

Nice info here.
Still fully functional, but if I need a major part in the future for my '89, it would be a complete rear wheel assy.
*Edit* Let me think... I have a spare one in the attic
