1984 kdx 200 piston rings

Post by Asewell »

I'm having trouble finding piston rings for an 1984 kdx 200 as they are now discontinued from kawasaki. Would any of the other years with the same bore and stroke fit, like say a 1988. The cylinder and piston are standard size, plating is still good.

Big thank you to Jeff Fredette for sorting out a set of rings from a later model for me.

Very good! You should post the relevant info in the air cooled forum under - reference -, with a good title. It could be handy for someone else!

Asewell, I'm not allowed to send a PM but I'd like to know what rings you used for the '84 200. I know this post is old but I hope you still have the info.

Sorry I haven't responded sooner, I didn't go back to check in the relevant section. I will check tonight when I finish work, I believe I have the boxes that the rings came in. The thing is I can't remember which rings he told me to use, but I have the one's I didn't install, if that makes sense.

Not sure what else to do, I can see the photo when I log on.
Anyway the rings are Kawasaki part # 13008-1116, and Jeff wrote not to use the "top" rings.
Being a bit of a troglodyte I will need to wait until my daughter gets home to help me try and fix the lack of photo.

Those are the 1989 - 2006 rings. Are there two different rings in the pack??

1984 kdx 200 piston rings

Post by Gotanubike »

haven't you guys learned anything about the kdx200 in along the years?

"Gain in displacement volume compared to the 175 is through longer stroke; Bore diameter remains the same"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kawasaki_KDX200

the bore diameter is the same for all KDX200's...therefor I would assume all stock piston rings are the same?

Dude. Diameter is just one factor of a ring.

I knew I'd end up being corrected on that. Since wiseco's 711M06600 piston application is for 1986-06, thought I remembered it as being all the models.

86 - 06, not 83 - 06, but that has nothing to do with the rings

Kawasaki wants to improve their product. Wiseco hopes for a one size fits all product.

Yes, 2 rings per pack, Jeff sorted them before he shipped them are wrote which 2 not to use (the top rings) on one of the packs. A little bit more expensive as you need to buy 2 sets, but when you can't get the year specific one anymore it's great to find something that can buy to keep it running. I still haven't sorted the photo/ image thing yet, sorry and your right I logged in from another computer and can't see the photo, my IT assistant (daughter) has been fired.

Hi Jason, I went back and edited my post with the image of the piston ring boxes, it seems to work now.
