H Clutch Reassembly - Jada Spring

I took the clutch out to fix my kickstarter, and my manual does not show how to reassemble the Jada spring. I could not get into Jeb's clutch guide for pictures.

I found two friction plates with a larger center diameter, and assembled in the wrong order with the Jada spring and the seat ring used as spacers on the hub. The parts fiche shows the spring seat ring should be next to the clutch hub, and the outside of the jada spring should be seated against the spring seat. Both should be under the first (outside) friction disk. Is that right? It seems wrong to me, as it would press on a small surface near the center of the first steel disk. I would think it should be put in with the outside edge to the first steel clutch disk. Or maybe that is how it is supposed to work. In my mind the only reason to have it in there is to reduce clutch chatter.

AND, why do I have two frictions with oversize centers? The parts fiche shows all 8 frictions have the same part numbers. I am going to assemble it as shown in the fiche. It would be easy to take it apart and rearrange the spring/plates.

Is the spring even needed?

If anyone has clarification, please let me know.

Ok, I found it in one of canyncarvr's post from 2007. He says it makes the clutch release better.

The conical spring is supposed to have the outer diameter against the clutch pack, which would put the "point" of the cone against the flat steel ring. The flat steel ring goes against the basket as shown in the fiche. I must have six aftermarket clutch plates and two stock.
