HEY KDX guys,
I am new to this forum had a 03 kdx 200 and so I thought I knew kdx pretty good but something is troubling me about a purchase a friend and I did today. We found a super clean 2000 kdx 220 so we thought and checking serial # ON MOTOR IT IS A 200 DX200HE000505 what should we do ? I am sure the carbs wrong so we have to bore it and can we turn a 200 into a 220 with a bore also or does the cylinder need to be replaced also is the ignition wrong for this motor. What year is this motor can yoiu tell me please. The frame is a 220 for sure, bought it for a 1000 bucks the bike looks like it has 200 miles on it no wear at all. runs good has a air leak carbs idels funny. weird it had a motor change unless the 220 piston went and tore it up..

keep the 200 jug and have the carb bored out by RBD and you'll have a better bike than a stock 220.

measure the carb, the 200 should be 35 mm iirc.

How do you know it is a 220 frame? I don't know the difference. You can look up the vin number on Kawasaki.com.

The displacement (cc's) should be stamped on the engine. I don't know if the 200 and 220 engine shared some castings, and part numbers.

Looked it up on kawasaki web its a 220 so now I have to see about ignition change. I will do the R&B carb, pipe, silencer and protection stuff

Thanks for any help...

I thought the 200 and 220 had the same frame? Why do you think it's a 220; decals, what the owner said?

Everything on the bike is the same except the cylinder/head, and the 220 comes with a smaller carb on it. The cylinder will say how many CC's it is right on the side. 198cc=KDX 200.

You need to look for the displacement stamp on the cylinder, not the number cast into the case half. just like fuzzy told you. It is quite likely that it is the original kdx220 engine. Would be sweet if it has the 200 jug on it though.

Yes I did all the looking it is a 198 barrel and a 200 case we got a good look in the exhaust port and thru the reed side after removal and it looks brand new inside, very happy. Bought a FMF Pipe (Gnarly woods and a silencer,v-force reeds cage, bash plate, pro taper risers and bars, new renthal grips, handgaurds, new tires, some new plastics like a 250f front fender, took motor out acid cleaned it up and light dusted the motor with silver engine paint took all case bolts out after and wire wheeled them new, so far bike was 1100 and we spent 1200 in parts and only need a few minor things and shell be better then new. touched up and cleaned and greased everthing, need graphics and polisport headlight. sending carb to R&B for the works.
