I took the seat off after my first ride and found the air box had no cover on it, i could see straight down to the filter element. the element was fairly new, though, and had good oil on it, and no crap on the inside surface. Should I get the OEM box-cover for it?
does that create more airflow to the carb? I can't picture whether that would affect it, since the filter seems like the main bottleneck in the air intake. but then again, the rest of the bike was race-stripped, so I'm wondering if it has to do with hopping up the engine.
should the air box have a cap....?

It's your ignition module. I drilled a hole in the upper edge of the air box and zip tied it.Arkmage wrote:Where do you folks generally mount the electronic do-hickey when you remove the box lid? Is that thing a tip over sensor that needs to stay horizontal?
If I can't do it, I'm sure someone else can!

Yeah, sounds like a flock of Geese heading south.....creates more noise than anything
I had good results removing the soft rubber snorckle and doubling the size of the hole it was in. Keeping most of the lid keeps more crap out of the airbox. Some folks have added screens on additional openings.
I like the way the KDX airbox is made. It is pretty resistant to getting water or mud in it. The air box on my orange bike is a really crappy design compared to the KDX or most Jap bikes I've seen
