Guess what I broke...

Post by rsr02 »

So first time taking apart a powervalve 2 stroke and big surprise I broke something.

Every thing was going good, supported the KIPS shaft, got the cylinder off and on the bench. Then it happened...just a little TINK sound. I broke the last tooth off the smiley gear(on the far right when looking at it).

So how hosed am I? Looking on line its looking like 70 bucks. Any body got one laying around? Do I really need all the teeth

And how much carbon is normal? I got the bike this spring, and it still had the stock tires('97 220). I've only put maybe 25 gallons through it. I runs good(well ran before this weekend). Just wondering? All the valves came out no problem, and the main valve just needs a little scraping.[/img]

Not a problem, did the same thing on mine 3-4 years ago, ran it anyway, never had any trouble.

Interesting, should I set it up just like the manual says? Or should I offset the teeth one way or the other?
