No thanks, I'll pass.

Seriously, I might try one after I get my hybrid built. Until then, knobbies it is!

So, sense this is a trials tire post what is the consensus on the best trials tire? Cost aside. Just all out best tire.

I see your point. I was referring to the best "woods enduro" on a KDX tire.

The opinions seem to vary so I was looking for what works great on a KDX. Some of the places I ride I see trials tracks but you can't tell what type it is.

I use a Dunlop D803. Best bang for the woods TT buck IMO.

there are plenty of rocks around here, and I am sure a Trials tire would do me pretty good but I have yet to try one out. I was thinking about going to the Trials Training Center since it is close, and asking if I could borrow their KDX with trials tire to try it out.

There is so many cool things in that post.

1- Trials training center that is close

2- They have a KDX

3- they might let you try it

Good luck and let me know what you think if you do.

I like the Pirelli. Yeah, the Michelin sticks like glue but come on, the Pirelli isn't that far behind and it lasts a heckuva lot longer and it will work as a DS tire and it lasts longer. Did I mention it lasts longer?

do you guys that run trials tires in the rear, run trials fronts also?

No. Most that I've seen, myself included, run a knob on the front.

I'm on my second dunlop 803 on my KDX and love it. 8 psi with a extra heavy duty tube and make sure you point it in the direction you want to go. On my DRZ I run the pirelli for 2 reasons. 1 The pirelli is not a true trials tire but a hybrid that it is a bias ply tire and has a stiffer sidewall thus it doesn't try to throw you to the ground when you get a flat- not fun on pavement. 2 it's DOT approved. Oh ya 3 it wears like iron.

yeah it is nice that they are close. the TTC is about a half a mile from my families farm and about 10 miles from my house. I actually ran some of their offroad trails on my old KDX about 15 years ago just for fun. They do have a some loaner bikes for some of the adventure tours that they have and a KDX is one of them.

The pirelli is a good compromise, but it is not a real trials tire. It is defnitely a trail specific bias ply tire. I do love mine, and it has lasted FOREVER. Traction continues to be excellent as the knobs wear down. The Mich X-11 is supposed to be the stickiest, but so soft it gets pretty wallowy when you ride fast. The D803 is stiffer than the X-11, but softer and more grippy than the MT43.

If i can ever wear out this MT43, I will give a D803 a shot. I got to ride one on a KTM200 and liked the feel of it.

I currently have three bikes with trials tires mounted.

The x-11 tubeless is the real deal, no questions asked.

The x-11 tube type and the D803.

I like the x-11 tube type better. That is because it is easier to mount and if you shop around you can get it for about the same price, within 10 bucks or less.

The traction seems about the same really. If I had to choose I think the x-11 may be a tad better, but I don't think you could ever prove it.

The wear is also the same. On the 200 the last forever, either one. On the 250 you better not spin them on hard pack or rocks, bye bye knobs.

I have tried the pirelli and it was not for me. If I am gonna go trials tire I want a real one. I don't ride on pavement and don't have to many flat issues. I have had two flats in the last 5-6 years running trials tires and it was all my fault. They were both on the 250 with the x-11, running fast and hitting hard. I run a standard tube inside a boot made from a bridgestone UHD tube and it is pretty bullet proof. I just carry a fender bag with a front tube and co2 inflator and change on the trail. I have only needed it once, the other flat was within half mile of the truck. That was the longest half mile in the world.

you do have to be careful about spinning them up on rocks...ive lost a knob or two that way..

so far I have found the IRC to be the stickiest compound. Pirelli feels more like a regular tire in the corners, not as much flex at higher speed, didn't get any more of a result from the michelin compared to the IRC, just more expensive.
