question about the trip meter

Post by diymirage »

hey guys,

i was over at the pro-cycle site and i noticed they have a universal speedometer that runs of the trip meter of most japanese bikes (or so it says)

well, this got me wondering (since the one they have is only 2 inches across and goes up to 140 MPH) could i use just about any speedo from a japanese bike ?

has anyone ever tried this ?

any thoughts ?

:hmm: Could you find one that would fit better?

Going up to 140 would be a visual disappointment because you wouldn't use the second half of it (without a VERY long down hill).

that is one of the reasons i didnt really like that one, plus, with it being only 2 inches across, that would leave a useble section off about 1 inch

i did come across this one
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Universal-Dual- ... 3a68eccd91

which goes up to 140 KM/H which is about 75 ?

The KM/H thing would turn me off a bit. I have had an eye on one of these. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Trail-Tech-Voya ... 2a15c8e845

Probably won't happen soon but it looks pretty cool.

i have the same speedo as in the first pic but mine has MPH, they are small & fit snug behind the headlight cowl, the x2 wires attatch into my wireing loom & illuminate the speedo when the headlight is on.

is it visible enough cornish?
thats one of my main concerns, that i would end up with one thats useless due to its small size

yes it`s visible ..you have to glance over the handlebar a little as the bar pad is there but then you wouldnt want it sticking up too far over the cowling ..its nicely protected behind the cowling from water etc & they are made of metal so reasonably tough & small ( you dont want a huge clock like thing stareing up at you)...i would recommend one..dont bother wireing it up unless you ride on the hi-way at night.

Since I don't have an ODO drive anymore, I use the Trail Tech Endurance version. All the needed features (MPH, ODO, ride ODO, ride time, average speed, clock. resetable, etc..). Can knock the "2" off the price of the Voyager.

Stock KDX, you would want the 500-20 model.
I think with the fork swap I used the 200-20 for the '95-'03 KX set-up. Can't find the box right now to be sure on that. Hopefully it re-appears tomorrow, the set-up instructions are in it.
