Dies after short distance

I have a '98 KDX220. It was Fredette'd by the previous owner. Started the bike up yesterday (hadn't ridden in a while). A little choke, backed it off, idled fine. Started down the street, going through the gears, and it starts to bog, then it just dies. Kicked the heck out of it, no restart. Pushed it back to the garage. Pulled the carb, filled it with carb-cleaner, pulled jets and they were clear. Float seems to function fine. Reassembled, and it started right up. Went down the street again, made it about a quarter mile and it died again. Couldn't get it restarted and pushed it back to the garage. Parked it.
Any thoughts?

Clogged fuel tank vent? Clogged fuel filter? Clogged petcock filters?
Try it again. Run it until it stops running. Open the fuel tank cap, and see if the bike immediately re-starts.
Also, install some clear fuel line so you can see the fuel flowing to the carb, if the bike is not already set up that way.
