are there any light bulbs available that are higher wattage than the stock 35w that will fit the stock light housing?

None that I have found. The H6M bulb is very limited in options. BTW, 30 watt is stock. A 35w is an upgrade.

from what i understand the stock coil wont power anything over 35W anyway

Correct. If you want to run higher wattage lights, you need a higher output lighting coil.

You'll have to go to the aftermarket for a more powerful headlight. I picked up a Polisport MMX. It comes standard with a 35w bulb but you can also get 45w and 60w bulbs for it.
