Looks more like an '85 XR 250R, since I see it has disk brake up front. Check if the engine moves freely when you give the kick a try, check the case for any cracks or holes, if there are any of these just walk away.bman wrote:so i'm thinking its about a 83' xr 250 [/url]
If the gears are moving and there are no holes in the case you may very well have a very solid place to start, check the frame and all moving & pivot points if there's no cracks or holes in the frame, or major wear in swing arm bearings, fork bearings, and you like to work and have several hundred bucks to help the economy get moving, you may very well end up with a very good restored bike that's several thousand less than a new bike. Forget resale, this is for you, a labor of love or distraction from the wife. Personally I'd offer $100 but if no major problems to engine or frame $200 is something I might just do.

A picture is worth a thousand words. The first several that come to mind are: trees growing through frame, seat cover peeling away from foam like the petals of a flower, and what plastic is there is faded to light pink...all these things indicate a LOT of time outside in the elements. Combine that with the fact that the bike is incomplete, and I think you would need to have some sort of sentimental attachment to that particular year of bike to justify all the work it would take to put right.
That said, you should totally buy it and document the whole build right here!
