I ordered the ring set and air filter today, friggin $85!! From now on, if I do any more parts ordering I think it will be through the internet at my house, this will go for any bike. Over at the dealership they were talking about how the earlier model KTM's had a lot of problems. What kind though? I would think with the right stuff and maintenance any bike can be good. But i guess it wouldn't matter since I'll sell this and get a honda after i get it running. It seems like the 125 EXC is very rare, I think I read somewhere that there was only 50 imported to the states in '94

Scratch that, its only the KTM parts that are pricy. Went to bike bandit and the piston alone is $167 whereas a CR 125 piston is $65. If this bike is going to have problems like I've been told, that is a lot of money that I will be looking at spending, which is why I will switch to a honda. Nonetheless, I'm excited to have this bike running by next week

another thing, the crankcase was filled with fuel when I took off the top end. Is that normal? Before I took the bike apart I tried to start it and fuel was leaking out of the overflow tube

sounds like your cab bowl filled up and flooded the crankcase. Not normal, but not surprising either.

You'll want to get your float valve sealing up properly before trying to start the bike. If it constantly overflows, it can flood the crank case again.

The piston ring and air filter came in today and I went straight to work. The bike runs very clean and smooth, probably as good if not better than my KDX! But I don't like a few things on it: 1st off the left hand kickstarter and also how tiny it is. Second, KTM positioned the exhaust to where it burns my leg if I don't sit further back. Third: the rock-hard seat. Fourth, I have to reach back for the kickstand to pull it out. I'm sure I can find a way to fix that up though. But other than those, it seems like a pretty good bike :) I really like the power delivery and how smooth the clutch and shifting are. I'm sure I can get it sold in no time. I'll post some pics up this weekend and maybe a video of it running :supz:

Nice! You have the same problem I have--a super cheap-to-fix bike that, now that it's running well, is too fun to get rid of! My $509.02 YZ 426 might just stick around the garage for a while...

I had time today to flush out the old, smoothie-looking transmission oil and put in fresh oil. I also put in better and fresher premix in it and lubed the chain and set tire pressures at the recommended psi. I finally got to take it for a decent ride today and it is much better than what I was expecting. Low end is actually pretty good, although sleepy, for a 125cc as I could ride everywhere in 5th gear if I wanted to. Mid range is powerful yet has a smooth transition. Top end is insane and revs to the moon, I absolutely love it  I think it's just a matter of getting used to the bike to position myself, because the exhaust didn't burn my leg as bad as yesterday and i got used to the seat and didn't have any trouble. I don't need to get used to the kickstart because it starts on the 1st kick all the time!

here's some pics by the way

haha, well the stickers are pretty yellowed out but the plastics are nice. I'm not a big fan of the whole white and purple look but I think it looks OK
