Is that a stock pipe?

I'd get new packing

Is it steel wool? Might be able to clean it by soaking it in solvent

I'm pretty sure steel wool will burn, so definitely don't use a torch on it

Seriously?

Why is that?

I've been using Silent Sport (its not pink) for about 7 years. One bag will last at least 3 - 4 packings. It is super easy to use
Maybe because it was pink and I felt emasculated by it, I dunno...
I think it came down to the design of the silencer (for me)- With the sleeve off, I had to try to wrap as much pink frilly stuff around the perforated inner pipe. I wrapped as much as I could and it was just a bit tricky to try to keep it all wrapped fairly tight and slide the sleeve over it. I feel that having a sheet/roll that I could cut to the right length (matching the inner perforated pipe) would have been easier and I likely could have put more packing in with it more evenly distributed....
YMMV, this was just my first experience with repacking a silencer.

Yep, that is a stock E series silencer. That looks like factory packing as well and it needs to be replaced.

Pick up some of the rolled type 2T silencer packing (I use FMF and get 3 repacks out of it), cut it to the same width as the factory one, then wrap it around the pipe, and tape it in place with masking tape. Then reassemble the pipe and you are done!

I pack mine fairly loosely

You want it to fluff up

Does not really pertain to this thread since it looks like Budderfry has a stock pipe

But I connect the stinger to the turbin core as pictured

Image

Then I pull some handfulls of string out of the bag and pull it apart with my fingers, then evenly as possible start stuffing it around the core

Image

Then slide the assembly down further and add more, and more

Image

Put some hi-temp sillycone on all the joints and hardware and you are done

i am using fiberglass sheeting that must be cut to the size of the core. i don't ACTUALLY have to use wire to keep this in place, do i? seems like unnecessary work.

It will slide in easier if you tape or wire it in place. You might run out of hands trying to do it without something.

Oh buy the way it is not a bad idea to wear rubber gloves while repacking a silencer.
