High altitude jetting

Post by djm1943 »

I recently got a 2001 KDX220r and will be taking it to Ouray,CO soon and riding up from there--10,000 to 13,000 feet. The bike is currently stock jetting and it has a FMF Gnarly pipe and Turbine Core II mufffler/spark arrestor. The air box cover is also removed but I have it and can put it back on. I friend of mine in Denver jets his with a 135 main, 40 pilot, and drops the needle one notch. He rides mostly below 10,000 feet.

Would appreciate any input for jetting to 10,000 feet and above.

Thanksk for your help.

Remember that every bike is different even if it's the same year and model, it should be close if they have the exact same mods, so this might give you a good idea of where to start.
You'll need to lean the carb. I'd get some pilot and main with me, 1 and 2 size down, if the bike acts up real bad then try them and adjust per the tutorial, it's fairly simple and doesn't take very long..
