Grooved Wheel Spacer

Post by Varmint »

Noticed a jiggle in the rear wheel and decided to replace the bearings. No problem in removal and installation but the wheel spacer on the sprocket side looked grooved.

I can't tell from the fiche if it is supposed to be that way. Thoughts?

I'm wondering if I should replace it. I don't think the "spacing" aspect of it is affected by the grooves.

What do you think?

The grove should not be there. It is most likely from dirk getting trapped under the seal and wearing into it.

Personal preference as to changing it or not, I probably wouldn't.

Yup. A little pebble probably did that. It's neat how the two grooves look machined!

If you got the money and time , put new ones in. The grooves are from where the seal contacts the spacer. It won't hurt anything but it will let muddy water in to that cavity between the seal and the bearing. I usually fill that cavity with grease.

This is on an '03? 8 years of going 'round and round, I'd have a groove too.
