dimensions of stock tool bag

Post by codan »

I'm going to make a replacement bag for the stock KDX tool bag.

Can someone be kind enough to measure the outside length, width and height measurements of the stock bag?

Does anyone know if the KDX bag is the same bag as on some of the KLX bikes?

Thank you,

Can anyone double check the measurements?

I've now been quoted 3 different sizes from 3 different sources.

To be honest, I'm Dan of Dirt-Bike-Gear.com. I make bags for dirt bikes.

I am designing a quality replacement for the KDX bag but I live in a little town and almost never see a KDX around here. So I'm reaching out to the internet for help.

Thank you,
Dan

Hey dan...if your liking for a test mule id be more then happy to try out one of your new bags
ill measure mine later on tonight. But if your making a new unit why not make it a tad bigger? I keep tools, sparkplugs, oil, keys and a brakedick lock in mine and it looks like its 9 months pregnant

thank you for the help

I make several size bags, perhaps one will work for you now.

I've been in discussion with a 'significant' online retailer that is looking for me to make an inexpensive direct replacement for the KDX. Hence the attempt to get the exact measurements.

I'm currently redesigning my product line and this bag will have to fit within it.

Last try, can anyone confirm the EXACT dimensions of the stock tool bag?

Hey Dan,
Sorry, no help from me, but I gotta ask ya- Why did you discontinue the best fanny pack ever made? I got mine- what- 8 years ago?

Getting back to your fender bag, I made a bottom support piece cut out of a hard plastic bucket. I cut to the same shape as your bag, and attached it to the bottom/inside- hangs over a bit on the tail end but works just fine! (Think we talked about this on KTM Talk 6~8 years ago?)
If I can't do it, I'm sure someone else can!

Dan, I'm going riding for a few days, but after I get back I'd be more than happy to take a few picks of the naked fender, along with the relevant hole to hole to seat to width/ length measurements.
Your tail bags.. The toughest out there.. :supz:

I measured 6x5x2.5 on an empty zipped bag. Measured to edge of piping.

I would be happy to send a stock bag to you. I have several and yes the KLX bag is the same. If you need to cut it up to reproduce one then I would want like a discount on a getting a new one. Send me an email kchotrod61@gmail.com

questions and comments:
1) make it bigger - I might, if it will fit neatly on the bike and fit within my product line

2) why discontinue fanny packs - that's a trail master, I loved that pack. But I didn't make money, and I didn't make money on the follow up Star Trail fanny pack.

3) doctord - thank you, that's now size #4. Are there several different KDX bags?

4) rod - thanks but really all I need is the measurements

5) tirebiter - glad you like the bags, any help would be appreciated

I finally ran across a KDX (without tool bag though) and measured the tool bag area. And I believe your are exactly correct.

It looks like the bag could also be stretched to 6.75" (front to back) .

So my plan is a bag that measure 7"x5"x2.5" that can retail for $20-$25.

Thanks for the help.

Don't forget to put the straps in the bottom. And a zippered "extension" would be cool also.

never liked the design of the stock bag.

I like being able to remove my Moose bag with just 2 buckles

I never liked the silly zipper on the stock back. The size was O.K., but two tall Buds was pushing it.

Tirebiter.....that's a good idea on how to mount a bag. Been trying to figure it out. Was stuck on the thought "I need a rack". Would prefer to be able to take the bag off easily, but that idea still works good. Thx . . . .
