freshly replated cylinder, question

Post by wvsp612 »

Just received my replated cylinder from Millenium technologies. It appears they did a good job. In their pre-installation instructions, they advise to chase all threaded holes with a tap (to ensure the threads are clear I assume since the entire cylinder appears to be coated now). Question is, is this really necessary? I don't have a tap set, but if it is really necessary, I guess I will be getting one.

I've never done that. Probably a good idea, but not necessary.

For cleaning up threads you can cut a small slice or two lengthwise out of the end of a bolt using a cut off wheel. It won't be as durable as a good tap, but to clean up threads it will do the job just fine.
