Where can I get a bolt for my kick stand?

Hi Gang,

I lost one of the bolts that secures my kickstand to my swingarm. I took the other bolt off, and went to my local hardware store as well as Home Depot. I could not find a match. Any idea as to where I can get one locally? Is it best to just order an OEM bolt on line? Anybody know what size I need?

Thanks All,

D.

You shouldn't have any problems finding a bolt at any decent hardware store that will work. Yes, it won't look anything like the factory one but it will do the job.

SS,

Both places had the right size bolt, but neither had the fine threads that the original bolt has.

I want to call a couple of auto parts stores, but I dont know the exact thread spec.

you're looking for a metric cap screw. I'm not sure what size off hand.

KDX,

I am a big fan of my local ACE Hardware store.

They did not have a match this time.

I cant believe I lost one in the first place!

Worked itself out in a 2 hour trail ride.

Thanks All,

D

Really? I'm surprised, well the kickstand on my bike managed to wiggle itself out when I first got it and it also stripped the threads, so I drilled a slightly larger hole and tapped it with new threads, so the bolts mine uses are different from stock.

Go to NAPA or another auto parts store and see if they can match it up
other wise order an OEM bolt and remove the kick stand till you get it so
you don't lose that too.
Use some thread lock when you reassemble.

Thanks Gang.

I ordered one on line.

Word of advice when re-bolting your kickstand.
This is a chronic problem with kickstands installed on swingarms. This has happened to me, mine stripped as well, tapped out larger etc. To avoid this, clean the threads in the swingarm (aluminum), use lots of loctite, whichever colour is the best bond, and torque correctly. You don't want to strip the threads, and you don't want it to fall off again.
Good luck.
