they are used to set your sag by compressing your spring more or less. do a search in the suspension section, you should get the procedure.

It also helps to have the correct rate spring for your weight. Setting the sag might make your bike stick up/squat in the rear with the wrong spring.

so just to make sure were on the same page if my bike looks like its sagging under its own weight then i need to back off the shock right?

or more likely your shock is blown , or your spring is sprung

Like Wibby said, "...likely your shock is blown , or your spring is sprung" or maybe someone installed some lowering links. BTW, have you disassembled all the linkage to lube it and inspect it for wear?

no i havent inspected the suspension at all except the front fork seals. is there a cheap way to fix this or do i need to buy a new shock?

get a manual and rebuild it yourself, if needed

Get those linkages cleaned and lubed soon. It is one of the few areas on a KDX that does need some regular servicing.

As for fixing it cheap, well, that depends on what is wrong with it. If you don't have the know how on how to diagnose it then I suggest taking it to a reputable suspension guy to take a look at it for you.

i just raised the bike on a lift and tightend the shock a couple more turnes and it seemed to raise the swing arm to the point where it looks normal and feels better. i think i will still need to fix it in time but it should be fine for this weekend
