I put the needle clip in the top groove and it ran a little better. It still won't idle no matter what I do. I took the air screw completely out and it didn't make any difference. I can screw the idle screw all the way in and all the way out and it makes no difference.
This kind of sounds like a plugged up carburetor if the air screw has no real effect.
And are you sure the float level is running correct?

I have had the carb apart several times. I cleaned it with carb cleaner. I ran root canal files through all of the ports to be sure that they were not plugged, and I have checked all of the ports with air to be sure that they were open. I'm going to replace the jet block gasket and see if that helps. I checked the float and needle and they are good. I set the float level with the sight tube.

Gear head I hope this helps my buddys bike was doing the same thing as yours this is what we did..... We set his air fuel screw to about 1 and a quarter turns out, installed a 38 pilot jet, installed a 142 main jet, set the needle clip to the middle notch, and replaced the br9 with a br8 plug and his bike has run perfectly all weekend the other thing I was going to ask was, who did the top end work? Cause if u put your rings on upside down that causes low compression. There are numbers stamped on the rings they have to face upwards, also u should try going to a leaner fuel we run belray MC1 at 50:1 with high test fuel and the bikes run sharp on that!!![/i]

Not to mention, less oil is NEVER the answer. I think the op is on the right track with the jet block gasket. I have seen this issue several times now with the 35mm PWK.

Thank you for all of the suggestions. I will try them as soon as I can. I think I'm going to start with the jet block gasket because if that is the problem then changing jets won't help. I'm pretty sure that I put the rings on with the numbers up.

I think I'm getting somewhere. I think the jet block gasket has been the problem. I replaced it and it's running better. The idle screw is working somewhat, and the air screw is also working a little. The bike picks up RPMs a little better and smoother now. I think it still needs some tuning.

Did u try replacing your pilot jet yet with a 38? Once my friend jay did that. He was able to turn his idle screw out. He also dropped his main to a 142

I didn't go that far with it. I had a 40 and I put that in. I need to get some more jets. The jets that I ordered were larger because I was expecting to have to go that way with it. I didn't expect to have to go smaller. I had a 40 that I ordered for my son's XR200R, so I put that in. So right now I have the 40 pj and a 145 mj with the stock needle on the top groove. I'll play with it some more when I get time. I've got to get the 427 in my '69 Camaro back together.
