does powervale worth rebuilding?

Post by glukasil »

hi guys.

kdx250

powervalve is still movable but stiff....
a rod for the valve in the clutch area is snapped.
part are expensive and difficult to come by.

does it worth doing anything with it ?

should i jam it wide open?
or half way and use 98 gas to prevent detonation?
change sprockets to have more bottom end?

any positive outcome would be appreciated.

thanx a lot.

YES it is definitely worth fixing. Without it your bike will never give you what it was meant to.

how about if it is not economical to rebuild the valve,..............
the bike does not worth that much money and it is not the bike i ride all the time.......
if there is a choice to trash whole bike or de-valve it .........and use it as a spare one or for friends use.......

You say the rod itself is broke? That is kind of unusual. It is normally the sub-valves that go and not the rod.

If you fix the KIPS so that it is in the "open" position it will have no bottom end grunt and no top end if you do the opposite. IMO, either fix it right or just sell it off if you don't want to fix it and buy something else. Of course, it's your bike, so do what you wish.

As long as it's not stuck open I would not worry so much about it, but I ride mostly tight singtrack

Sounds like the little rod behind the clutch cover is broken, no? Should be a cheap fix, what's the problem?

yes it is that rod , part of the governor.

i have bought that part already.

the problem is the valve is stiff , not easy to close and open.......
still possible to do it with bare hands but hard.

my mechanic said it has to be rebuild but i have many telling me it is not hard to clean it up.......

hope the mechanic is not just trying to pull my pants down and bend me over :(

Mechanic is trying to bend you over. Take the cylinder off, remove all the parts, clean them, re-install, and ride that thing.
