Finally repacked my silencer, and it cost less than $4. Passed by the local boat repair shop, bought one square yard of fiberglass mat. Packs very nicely, seems full. The best part is, it runs and sounds great. Anyone see a downside to this?

Just make sure the thickness of the material is consistent with the FMF or other brand of re-packing. Check it after a few weeks to make sure it is intact but otherwise it should be good!

Sidenote: a couple fiberglass strands did fly out in the first minute or two of idling. And my exhaust smoke was shiny for five minutes of riding. Everything seems normal now though

I'm not sure there is anything that you couldn't use. I have heard of just about anything that would fit getting wadded up in there. Let us know how it holds up.

A roll of un faced house insulation is a lot cheaper and it's like a lifetime supply!
