How wide across tip to tip. I rode a ktm 250 exc instead of the front forks the most noticable difference was cutdown handlebars and stearing stabilizer the narrow bars felt so much better to me.I will go back and measure.but my stock bars are like 32-33 inches. if it has already been covered sorry

I've got mine cut down to about 28 1/2. Steering stabilizer is even more important with shorter bars. Just something to think about.

Yup 'round 28-29"

If you buy mini bars you don't have to cut 'em

Right now mine are 29.5. I'd like to go narrower but with the dual sport stuff I added I am not sure I'd room on the bars.

Probably right, Coop. At 28.5 I had a hard time mounting busters and even brake/clutch perches.

I shoot for as close to 28" as I can get, but anything under 30 is OK with me. I usually take alook at my bars, when everything is mounted up, and try to take a guess as to much I can cut off and still have room for everything.
My DR650 still has the stock bars, and they feel super wide. Even though it is set up for street use only, I am going to cut them down soon.
As Mr Wibbens mentioned, Mini Bars work well, and you can end up with more room to mount stuff because the crossbar section is narrower.

BTW - Every 1/2" makes a big difference!
