i noticed in readers profiles alot of guys run a kx rear fender and on my bike which is a 1990 kdx 200 most guys say they installed a kx 500 rear fender does any one know the year i need to buy and is it a direct bolt on

It's close to a direct bolt on. A little trimming may be needed. Pretty sure it's 88 and on for the year.

You could probably use a lot of those KX type fenders for the KDX. You could also get a UFO universal and mock it up. I have had good luck with those in the past. Good luck!

I know it is not what you asked for but I'm going to use a Yamaha YZ450F fender on mine. I will post up a thread about it when completed.

I had to trim a bit where it clears the subframe. Maybe my subframe is a bit tweaked, IDK.

I like the way it turned out. Pics are in the members rides section.
