kx fork slider interchangeability

Post by casola »

Hi Everyone,

I bought a pair of 2005 kx 250 forks and one slider has a dent at the bottom. Won't affect it during riding but causes the fluid to leak when collapsed to fill it. Im looking around for another set of forks and was wondering which years have the same sliders and if 125 will work as well.

Thanks

I'd get the part number and then do a reverse look-up to see what other years and bikes use that slider.

Yep. Look up the part on Ron Ayers website (http://www.ronayers.com/) and then do the reverse look-up.

On Kawasaki's web site you can look under the owners info/parts diagram, and then click on the yellow icon and it will show all bikes that use that part.

everything I have found shows that those lower fork sliders were only used on 2005 kx250. Probably some differences in the wheel and caliper mounting.

You can see this on ron ayers if you do as suggested above (i checked). Cheap cycle parts also has a similar reverse lookup which gave the same info.

I also just looked it up on the Kawasaki site and it says the same thing, 2005 only. I was looking at the two stroke KX250, not the 250F.

That was the first year they put the TC Showas on the 250's. Probably made some small changes for the later years.

Yeah only thing I could think of would be the lower tube

Won't affect it during riding but causes the fluid to leak when collapsed to fill it

If the fluid leaks when you fill it, what do you think will happen when you hit a BIG bump?

I've never seen a pair of forks compress all the way to the bottom inch.

Is there a way to identify that my forks are the showa's?

Could always fill the ding with epoxy and try to sand it smooth

I love that quote wibben's. I teach 7th grade and H.S math.

I'll send you guys a pic. It's pretty screwed at the bottom.

That must be a 1 year only front end or something. the front axle spacers are for 04 and 05 only and the tubes are 05 only.

If those are in fact 2005 KX250 forks they would be KYB twin chamber forks

My bad, I posted incorrect info on those being Showas. You are right about those being KYB TC's. That is if they are '05 KX 250 forks.

I read a review on the 2005 kx 250 and they said the forks were a major improvement over the 2004. From what I have read from people that have done the conversion it was just a matter of finding a pair that are inverted. Are some dramatically better or worse? If all things equal as far as twin chamber and so on is one manufacturer better than the other?

I hope I'm not dragging a thread out beyond its' death ;)
