spooge?

Post by scheckaet »

Since I build the hybrid I'm getting a lot more spoo than before, I'm using the same jetting and oil mix as before (1:40 with amsoil dominator).
The only difference are:
1: different airbox, filter and boot are from the KDX though
2: 1 inch added to the head pipe to clear the frame
3: cylinder I got from ebay that I sent to powerseal to replate, (recommended by RBD)

Here are some pics of what the spoo looks like:
it's very fluid, some is black and some is grayish milky, easy to wipe off.
I thought the grayish stuff was coolant but I'm still toped off.
What comes out of the exhaust is black.

Any idea?
Could it be jetting too rich (i know don't jet by spoo amount, just need some opinions

EDIT: the bike runs as good as before.

What does the plug look like?

1" added to the header is a lot, and is definitely going to require a jetting change. Do you notice a shift in the power curve? Theory would suggest that the 'meat' of the power curve is going to be shifted down several hundred RPM with 1" added....Taking it off the top at the same time.

On the karts I used to race, the header to pipe joint was two piece, held by springs, and a piece of 'flex' pipe would be added in this area. We would have a box of short pieces of pipe cut in 1/4" increments so that depending on track size we could fine tune in the range of power. Short track (need torque), long flex joint. The tune definitely changed from long to short.

hard to tell on the power curve, I focused on trying to keep the power down by playing withe clicker settings cuz it was bucking hard.
I was spinning the rear a lot, because of that + a too soft tire (michelin S12 that's now completely shredded to pieces  )
I get what feels like lot of wheel spin, it seems to have a hit and I need to shift up a lot faster but it may be because I can't get any traction.
I'm going to put my old tire for this week end and see how it goes.
I currently have a 45 pilot and might try a 42 to see how it goes. I didn't see anything in between 42 and 45 on bike bandit, is there 43 or 44 available? Just curious.

I'll post a pic of the plug tonight. I'm guessing it'll be wet and balck.

I'm using a 40 pilot on my hybrid. Based on the A/S settings, that is the right size.

That seems to be leaner than most, but I attributed that to the KX air box (I'm using the KDX boot though) flowing differently than the KDX airbox.

You have installed a monster 'torque ring.' I would expect a large boost in power in the midrange, and just under.....With 6-800+RPM cut off the top.

Yeah I think I get more torque just under the midrange if that makes sense.
I didn't change the jetting at 1st because
1: it's a pain to remove the carb on the hybrid :busted:
2: I figured I'd need more fuel on the pilot because of the 1 inch addition on the pipe and since I was a tad rich on the kdx I thought it would work out, seems like I was wrong.
I'll see if I can get that 42 pilot in for tomorrow and will report back.

No doubt.

I don't remember what type of carb it is, but you can get to the pilot and main from the bowl cap/screw.

I wish the KDX's used that style of carb.

I am not sure what your setup is like, but I find it much easier to just remove the subframe with the airbox on bikes where getting the carb out is difficult. On the RM125 I just bought for my nephew I am not sure you could get that carb out otherwise with as tight as it is LOL.

If that's all the spooge you have I wouldn't worry about it

Dunno why it's so milky looking though

The milky part would bother me more than the amount. I have tried just about every thing I could think of to get mine to stop spooging and just gave up after a while. If it runs good run it!

Looks way rich but looking at the end of the plug isn't where you really need to be looking. The best indicator is to see what the base of the porcelain insulator looks like down inside the plug. The only way to see it easily is to cut it apart but that is a little extreme IMO.

You might try raising the clip on the needle a notch to see if that helps a bit.

Scheckaet,

I am running the following:

Pipe:fmf gnarly woods about an inch added at header
Silencer: KX250 turbine core II
KX Airbox and boot
Jetting:
152 Main
40 Pilot
CEL Needle 2nd clip from top

40:1 Motul

With that setup I get very little spooge.

The spooge under the KIPS cover looks normal.
That plug don't tell you SH1T except possible light detonation or
crappy fuel.
Have you advanced the timing from stock setting ?
Do you run 89 octane fuel ?

EDIT
Just looked back at the pics inside the kips cover and the engine side.
If your not adding coolant that is possibly caused by condensation
or has it suck a little water recently ?

that plug certainly looks wet to me & given the amount of milky oil inside the kips covers etc i would check to see that the head gasket hasnt sprung a leak.... if it has regardless of what oil/mix you run & what jetting you have i the motor will smoke like a train .

timing is stock.
I get the high octane from the same gas station and it doesn't usually last long before the nest batch, so no old fuel.
bike doesn't smoke too much, no more than any other 2 strokes.
I don't do much water crossing, the carb was clean when I changed the pilot so doesn't look like I sucked anything.
If I was burning coolant, I'd smell it in the exhaust + I haven't had to refill the rad.

I re-read the jetting guide and got the fastest idle around 2.25-2.5 turns with the 40 pilot. The bike pulls clean and stronger than before. (happy surprise there)
It's probably gonna be borderline rich for summer riding when it gets in the 100 but should be good for 30 -75 temp range.
I may try a 38 to see how it works when it get above 80-100. (75 today)

I'm amazed at how much a difference that 1 inch on the pipe made in the jetting.
