Electrex Stator?

Post by swatts »

Opinions on this ebay find?
http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie ... K:MEWAX:IT

Price is right, output is right 65w, they are a very legitimate company supplying our hobby. Anyone have experience with these?
Thanks,

I saw that too. I have read some bad things about Electrex on ThumperTalk, but who knows really. If I had the money I would be the guinea pig because I am dual sporting my KDX I think and the extra juice would be nice.

I rewound my own stator for much less than that, and got more output in the process.

Yeah nick, it looked you did a pretty good job. You ever get around to measuring the output? All I've seen you post is "I guess I'm getting", or "I figure". I have doubted that you're getting anywhere near what you think, and I still do. Would be nice to see what it's actually putting out.

Yeah I wondered too what re-wrapping produces because that is much cheaper option if it has good output.

If you think about what you are doing you can dualsport a KDX on the stock stator as long as you don't need turn signals. I am and the headlight output is fine for cruising at 40mph. With a rewound stator I'm sure it would be better though.

How did you test it?

"Nowhere near what I think???"

12.53v AC @ 7.90a AC gives 98.987 watts. Measurements taken just above idle.

Idle gave 12.34v AC @ 7.81a AC, which works out to 96.375 watts.

Tested with stock headlight and tail light on, measurement taken at headlight connector.

96 watts AT IDLE isn't bad for an $18 home rewind. No need to waste any money on an Electrex stator that's just barely better than stock.

Thanks guys! I took a youtube video too, it's uploading now. I'm going to write a "How-To" and post it all up this evening.

Why in the hell were people paying over $100 for these on this forum not too long ago?

Well, Inda was having them made with larger plates to help with higher output. The place that was doing them charged just like any other place when it comes to this stuff. Plus, some people are not mechanically inclined so having one pre-made is sometimes the best option as there is less chance for error.

Now, me, I'll rewind like a madman even though I have never done it before! I'm always up for a new challenge!

It really wasn't that hard at all, and actually kinda fun! I added the link above, here's the video of the test procedure:

Sorry for the bad quality, I took it with my phone.

Right, and they were still only 100W if I remember. I used the stock plates, and still put out 98W. There isn't much room under that flywheel anyway, so being able to squeeze in 2 or 3 more plates probably isn't worthwhile.

I agree. If you can get close to 100 without adding extra plates it is probably the easiest way to go.

That is an incredibly ****-ish thing to say. People were supporting the site, and Inda. In return he was offering a quality tested component, at competitive pricing in the market.

Good job on your stator and all man, but a modicum of respect is warranted. I'd suggest you find some.

Juilend, I don't think any disrespect was intended on Nick's part. (Well, at least I hope no disrespect was intended!) He is just alluding to how easy it is to do yourself and that the price people pay is not worth it when you can roll your own way cheaper.
