Dyna-Ring uh-oh!? UPDATED: Success!!!

Post by SS109 »

Trying to install my E-series Dyna-Ring right now. Got everything apart, ditched the judder springs, and begin to reassemble the pack. For some reason the hub will not slide into the Dyna-Ring. I might be able to force it down but I don't think it would be a good idea.

Anyone else have this problem? Is there something I'm missing?

No, my friction plates are fine. The center hub will not go into the Dyna-Ring. The opening in the Dyna appears to be too small of a diameter.

That is what I'm starting to think. The instructions are for the E-series but who knows! A couple of pics showing the problem. This shows as far as it will go without forcing it on the hub.

Wish I could help but I have not yet been able to obtain a Dyna ring so I can only guess ( and we all know what that is worth) so you may have to call the Allen guy that the others are talking about or wait for some one with some REAL knowledge.

Yeah, I guess I'll be the one to help get the bugs sorted out. Yea, me.

I can tell you that I am totally freakin' bummed right now. I was going on a ride tomorrow with some buddies on some good trail that would be perfect to test it out on. Now, I guess I'll just have to reassemble and keep the stock clutch setup for now.

My hub was tight at first but the farther I pushed it in the easier it went. When the hub is completely in, the dyna ring is free, as if the hub has a taper to it. I was able to push it on by hand. My problem was the friction plates I have has a smaller inside diameter than the area on the new steel plates that has been machined. I compaired my friction plates to a stock one and the stock one has a larger ID that fits the machined area on the new steel plates. I have access to a machine shop, so I turned the ID of my friction plates to match the ID of the stock plate. I have no idea who manufactured my plates.

I'd call Alan (Revloc) and ask him. I've talked to him a couple of times. Very nice guy.

I (obviously) do not have any experience with the DynaRing, but would I be out of line in asking if everything is in complete alignment? (All plates are in place?)

Hey. Just a newb with an interest here. Give me a break, ok?

I already fired off an email with the above pics to him and I'll try to call them tomorrow.

There isn't anything to align where I'm having the problem. Look at the top pic. The only two parts I'm talking about is the shiny one on top (Dyna) and the one that looks like a gear (hub) that the Dyna is sitting on. The Dyna has a large open area that slides over the hub. The opening is completely smooth without any teeth whatsoever so it should just slide on. Sorry if the top pic is misleading as I have it sitting on top of the steels and friction plates that were removed.

Anyways, I just finished buttoning it back up for the night. I'll wait until I talk with Alan and see what he has to say.
