Questions about stearing head bearings.

Post by Fatherof2 »

Hi Gang,

I am in the process of cleaning the stearing head bearings. Here are my questions:

1. I dont have a special tool to remove the stearing head bearing adjustment nut. Do most people use a hammer and screwdriver? Any advice on the process?

2. Do you use a hamer and chisel to remove the lower bearings from the stearing stem? Do I need to remove them to grease them properly?

Thanks for any advice,

D.

The nut shouldn't be very tight, but yeah if you don't have the tool you can do it that way

I use whatever is necessary to get the lower bearing off

Needs to be removed for replacing, not for regreasing

My nut was only hand tight as per the shop manual, if ts stuck a pair of channel locks should do nicely.
