Looking for advice on what to do with a motor.

Post by Tedh98 »

I'm on the fence on which way to go with this and am looking for some opinions.

For the last year I've been collecting parts for another '04 hybrid. In November I lost my job, so I'm not in a position to spend any more money on another bike.

The motor I got for this project hasn't had the case reamed out yet for the KX swingarm bolt.

I'm torn between selling the motor as is or having the cases reamed out and trying to sell it with all the other parts I've got for the hybrid. If I leave it as is, I would think I'd have a larger audience who would be interested. But if the motor is modified for the hybrid, my target audience would be a whole lot smaller, but it should be more desirable since it would be one less thing for someone to mess with.

If you were in my shoes, what would you do?

I'd just sell it as is. If I were looking for a motor for a hybrid build, I wouldn't be likely to pay any more just because it's already been reamed out to fit the swingarm bolt for a kx. If you could sell the whole package with kx parts and all, it would be helpful of you to ream it out for the buyer, but not much more than that.

Offer the option.
Market the motor with parts as a "hybrid kit"

'99 CR/KDX Hybrid with that RB stuff done to it

Guys - thanks for the good advice. I'll leave motor as is and let the buyer decide if they want it reamed.

Thanks again.

You guys were right, I listed the motor separate from the frame/swingarm and the rest of the parts on CL. I just sold the motor unmodified.

Thanks for the good advice.

About 20 mins south of the Atlanta airport.

I think you should be getting that skid plate and head today.
