looks like the plating is worn a bit.
How bad is the lip at the top of the cylinder where the piston is a tdc?

i can feel the lip at the top, but barely. it would be great if i was able to run this because i'm short on money right now, i'd probably replate it next winter.

yeah, i was planning on getting a wiseco, unless there's a different kind that you'd recommend.

yeah, i remember you telling me to look at your post with all the broken cast pistons. my bike had a wiseco in it before i tore it down too

2nd that. 2nd the wiseco as well. Just ensure full warmups before riding.

is it ok that there's a small ridge at the top of the cylinder? i can feel it, but just barely.

The area above the lip will be the intended bore size, below it is how much it's worn where the rings land. I can't see the plating worn through anywhere. If funds are tight, slap a wiseco in there and run it. You'll be fine for quite a while. Next top end might see a re-plate though.
