I cant get my shock out!

I got it un-bolted with no problems, but I cant seem to remove it from the frame. Am I supposed to remove the air box? I am using Cyclepedia, and they make no mention of pulling the airbox. If I pull back on the top of the shock real hard, I just clear the mounting bracket that the top of the shock bolts to. Then the shock is so wedged in that I cant move it. Any words of wisdom? Figured I would take a break and ask the experts. Hope this makes sense.

Thanks very much for any advice,

David

It comes out the right side between the frame where the nitrogen part is.

Inda, that is exactly what Cyclepedia says. However, it just is not coming out. I think I am going to have to pull the airbox. Does anybody else have to do that to get the shock out?

Sometimes you have to move the swingarm up, or down quite a bit to give you room to move the lower end of the shock around in the frame.

I am frustrated! I have the the nuts and bolts that secure the tie rods to the rocker arms totally removed. I am flexing the swingarm up and down. I just cant weasel the shock out. I had to take a break due to frustration! Do I need to rotate the spring around as I try to gain every mm of space needed to pull the shock? Is this normally quick and simple with nobody every having any difficulty with this job?

I need help.

Thanks,

D.

I had to take the airbox off of my H model to get it out. Manual says to remove: side covers, seat, rear frame pipe, rear fender, & air cleaner housing. I found that to be a pretty accurate description of how it had to be done. Older models may be different though.

I bet the airbox could use a good cleaning anyway

Quitcher whining and take it off

I feel better knowing its not just me. Sure would have saved a LOT of aggravtion if Cyclepedia had said that. I think I can get it out if I take off the expansion chamber.

Turns out that the aribox does not need a cleaning. The bike only has 16 miles on it! What are the odds!

Thanks for the input.

would the removal of the lower link help...the shock should just drop out the bottom?

Could always take the swingarm off

I bet ya there aint much grease on those bearings, even with just 16 miles on it

I am pretty certain that the pipe has to come off anyway...

Ok. I haven't taken my shock out yet, but I did on my old '96, and that was quite a while ago. So, is there a step by step for this operation?
1) remove seat and right side panel
2) remove rear dog bone bolt and swing dog bones downwards
3) remove upper and lower shock bolts
4) ????
5) ????

I have a new shock coming, and after I rebuild it and re-valve it, I will need to get it in there....

In the time it's taken you to post all of this, you could have taken out and reinstalled the airbox about 13 times... :?

1) EDIT- remove seat and LEFT side panel
4) Remove left subframe support (The right one is welded, yeah?)
5) Remove airbox
6) remove shock
