depends on where the power is. both of my ktm are 50ish, and i dont have a problem, but im not on the pipe. most of the time im using 1/8-1/4 throtttle. in reality you only need 30hp to do almost anything a dirtbike needs to to. the question is, do i "need over 50hp" NO.........do i "want over 50hp, YES............but your right about being useless tho......because like i said, your not really using that 50hp most of the time.

I've ridden kdx's for so long that when I get on something else with a lot of hp I get into trouble real fast if I'm in anyplace that even slightly resembles a trail  Granted I've had a few kx 250's but I would only ride them in open pit's,tracks and the dunes.

I've been looking at getting another mx bike but realistically a hybrid would do everything I need.............its just hard for me to build one with my current honey do list  where as I could say but babe it was a deal when I bring a Kx home

I hear ya, but I'm not talking about 2-cycles like yours. I'm talking about doubling the power of a 4-cycle....It's not going to have bottom end left.

screw a 4 stroke!! i love my 2 strokes...........ill tell you what gripes my ass about a 4 stroke. the 4 stroke industries are trying to make the 4 stroke perform like a 2 stroke, run like a 2 stroke, handle like a 2 stroke, rev like a 2 stroke.............why the heck do people buy a 4 stroke instead of a 2 stroke????? at least a 2 stroke is cheap to build, vrs a 4 stroke...and also, it take almost double the cc's on a four stroke to make the same power as the 2 stroke???? i just dont get it.

it's a well known fact that 2 strokes pollute waaay more than 4 strokes (noise and emission).

No doubt! 2T's are way quieter than the 4T bikes I have been around. Also, they can make 2T's more enviro friendly than a 4T if the companies would only put the R&D into them.

i dont see how you say 4 strokes are quieter?? 99% of 4 strokes hurt my ears.......my buddy's yz450f will ring my ears. i can hear him a half mile away when he rides it to my house. not to mention a 2 stroke is music to the ears  .......a 4 stroke just sounds like its got a bad case of the farts! ...........also.....taking 2 strokes out of the world is not gonna help the polution problem. we have waaayy to many other things to worry about when it comes to pollution.

Just think if all the tech dumped into the fart-can air compressors went into 2T tech instead. All they needed to do was add DI like in skis. Battery, DI, elec start, still weighs in less than the lightest 4T they've come up with. THe logistics just don't work...The baddest 450 you can build, double it, and still don't come close to hp/cc of a 1L inline 4. 4T's need lots of cylinders cause they have to rotate 2x too many ;)
