What's up fellas from San Antonio, Tx.

Post by OscaR »

I've wanted a KDX200 for a long time.
I've ridden since I was 7, I'm 45 now.
I've been on mainly Honda Z50's to CT70's.
I own a PW80 [wifes ride] Honda NSR50R & 3 Honda Z50's & a DR350SE.
I ride with a couple of adults who enjoy the novelty & nostalgia of kids bikes. I know of a guy who rode a CT70 to Sturgis from LOUISIANA this year. :supz:
My $fun$ budget is a concern cause I also maintain a small lake boat.
I'm a security guard by occupation for now  & enjoy all the monetary benefits & elite status that comes with it.

This is what I know of the bike I'm considering purchasing:
99 KDX220, FMF pipe, runs but locked in 6th gear for $275 obo.
Sounds to me like a possible owner repair gone bad?

I have the skill to rebuild but just need some advice on the possible cause of the problem.
The utility, value & underdog status of the KDX's appeal to me.
I'm not very trendy & this is plenty of bike for my skill level.
This would be my first time going green.
Thanks,
Oscar in San Antonio

If anyone wants to get together & ride in my area [minis or DR350] let me know.

OscaR you sound like a hell of an addition to this site. Welcome! That stuck in 6th problem might be an easy fix. Even if it's not the price is right and you could part the thing out and make money on the deal (not a recommendation mind you) so I say jump on it. It could be something jamming the shifter mechanism under the clutch side inner cover. Plenty of helpful folks here, so we can get you through it.

Oh, and I'd go with the $275 in hand and offer him $200. probably be able to get it for that or meet him in the middle somewhere. I wish I was down there to grab it. be aware that the 220 has a bad stock piston and it needs to be changed to a Wiseco. that will cost you somewhere around $150 for the piston kit and gaskets. Pretty easy to do.

maybe the kips is shattered and a piece is stuck in the gear mechanism.
Even if it is, 275 sounds like a decent deal if you don't mind wrenching on it a bit.
