A machinchouette is a device that you can not name by using the real name.

Exemple: Use the machinchouette tool to dismount your forks.

It means: use the fork rod holder special tool to dismount your forks.

How is it pronounced? I will add it to my vocabulary. I already use a lot of french words that are used to describe the steps in growing grapes and making wine.

Dohicky is another good way to translate machinchouette. You can also use machintruc instead or gugus or cossin. My favorite is the one locals here in northern quebec use: Gremain.
