Washington Rider

Post by bwheeler810 »

Hi everybody,

I am from Snohomish, WA and like to ride in the woods and on the track. I have been riding for about 7 years now, but started when I turned 30, so that means I'm almost to the top of the hill. I just did my first harescramble at Reiter a few months ago and I am hooked. My bikes are an 02 KDX 200, and an 01 KX 125.

I am married with two kids, ages six and four. My four year old son will be getting his first bike this summer. My daughter hasn't shown an interest, but we'll see what she does when her brother starts riding. I still can't get my wife to try it out. She watches too much freestyle and is completely afraid of bikes.

Nice site, Let's ride.

Welcome! I am just down in Bothell. You doing the Scottish Trials at Reiter this weekend? I am thinking about it, might be pretty gnarly with the weather we have had.

Welcome, I am just down the I-5 corridor in the oly. area, always good to meet another rider in the P.N.W. There is a "rough scrambles" coming up on the 14th that I plan to ride in at Mudslingers it is just off of I-5 around Tenino, it will be my first.
Glad to hear that your son has a interest in riding, that is about when my boy got his first 50, he will be 7 in feb. and has been on his pw 80 for about a year.
I sense a ride a tahuya coming up...what do ya think strider?

Hey,

I doubt I will be riding this weekend. My 200 is completely tore down to the frame. Scottish Trials, that's a Stumpjumpers event, right? Windfall should make that a lot of fun. I'm getting ready for "Frostbite" It may be hard to believe, but I had a ton of fun at "White Knuckle" even though I only reached two check points.

if your guys are up for another rider tagging along to Tahuya, I should the able to make that in a couple weeks. I've never been to Tahuya, but I hear it is pretty good during the wet season.

Scottish is put on by Puget Sound Trialers I think. I have yet to do a Western Washington race, so this weekend will be my first. The Frostbite is next on my list. Was the White Knuckle pretty intimdating? I have rode the Desert 100 poker run and race a couple times and the 25hrs at Starvation ridge. For some reason racing at Reiter gives me the willies, I guess I need to just do it and find out. Hopefully the trials race will be a good warm up for the much larger frostbite.

Whiteknuckle was my first HS. Everyone there said that it was one of the hardest races. We C riders were supposed to race for an hour and a half, but lap times for the most part were 2 - 3 hours. It was a 13 mile loop.

The terrain was downed trees, roots, deep ruts, lots of elevation changes, standing water, rocks all sizes, mud, mud, mud and mud. Needless to say it was pouring too. I had already taken my goggles off before the starting horn blew. It felt like I carried my bike the whole time. When I was done I could hardly stand, but I was so ready for the next race.

I learned a lot in that race. Everyone was stuck somewhere, even the AA riders. I made the mistake of getting off my bike and helping others get unstuck. I'm not in good enough shape to do that. I was spent by the first check point. I also waited too much for congestion to clear up instead of creating a new line. Main lines were pretty trashed anyway.

I hope I haven't ruined it for you. It definately was a great time. I was pretty excited to see that there was another race at Reiter so soon. My bike was running like crap but it still did alright up the hills. A lot of riders were crashing on the hill climbs but the 200 climbed right up with a little clutch work.

Anyway hope to see you there.

Sounds good. Looks like I have a riding buddy for this weekend so we are going to give it our best at the Scottish. I just got the Frostbite GP flyer in the mail, I can't wait!
